Myth or fact?

To begin, try the pre-module test. This test will be repeated at the end of the module.

1. All patients have a self-management care plan.
2. Patients and carers like to be listened to.
3. The carer is always a hindrance to the psychiatrist and the patient.
4. The carer is an asset to the psychiatrist and the patient, offering valuable information.
5. It will sometimes be necessary to persuade a patient of the benefits of involving family carers and/or friends.
6. The privacy and confidentiality laws prevent the psychiatrist from providing any information to the carer.
7. Quality communication by the psychiatrist is directly linked to optimal self-care for the patient.
8. A problem and goal statement should be SMART.
9. A self-management care plan gives all responsibility to the patient.
10. Patients will not address their priorities in spite of the best medical advice unless there is a collaborative care plan.
