An informed patient and carer will make better decisions and will develop a more effective partnership with the psychiatrist. A balance between the information the psychiatrist provides to the patient/carer and the information that a patient/carer finds through their own research should be achieved.

Select a patient that you currently work with.

Identify a number of condition-specific resources that you think would be useful for this patient (and their carer where appropriate).

Take time to investigate the resources that you have identified and jot down some notes with reasons why the resource would be useful for your selected patient.

For further research, select another patient with a different chronic condition and follow the same process.
